Nantucket might just be my new happy place. The island is not far from the US mainland, but if feels like your problems are a million miles away here. Everyone seems relaxed and happy, and it is not hard to see why. The sky and water are the bluest I have ever seen. The beaches are beautiful and unspoiled. The buildings exude historical charm. And the people are so wonderfully friendly.

The White Elephant is the place to stay when visiting Nantucket. It is a classic resort overlooking the harbor. The rooms are charming and have the feel of an old New England inn, but with all the modern amenities.

My 8 Favorite Things in Nantucket:

  1. Biking around the island. The island is super bike friendly, with great bike paths everywhere. Nantucket is relatively small, so you can bike to most places in a reasonable amount of time.
  2. Quiet beaches. The beaches are so quiet and unspoiled. We walked the Coskata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge and there was barely another person in sight. We did see a lot of wildlife, though!
  3. Sankaty Lighthouse. This place really says Nantucket to me. It is a striking landmark and makes for a great Instagram photo-op.
  4. Millie’s by the beach. Millie’s has delicious Baja-style food and is just a stone’s throw from the beach. Grab some tacos and grilled Mexican corn and go enjoy it on a beach blanket.
  5. Ice cream from Juice Bar. Despite the name, this place is all about amazing ice cream. I had the chocolate peanut butter cookie dough — all of my favorite things in one!
  6. Shopping in town. Nantucket has a trove of interesting shops, carrying everything from beachwear to home goods to art.
  7. Walking the piers. I love walking around the piers at sunset and watching the boats coming in for the evening. There are also great waterfront shopping and dining options.
  8. Historical homes. The island feels like stepping back in time, with cobblestone streets and historical homes. They take great pride in their window boxes, which are filled with beautiful flowers.
